I loved this book but think it is somewhat skewed towards baby boomers in New Zealand and those who can still get to have a technology free summer holiday in a Bach or holiday home. the humour leans towards adult in many places.
I also felt that the parents were more conniving than is acceptable given that the rest of the storyline is realistic. Also a 14 yr old and 11 yr old being 'put in charge' of very elderly grandparents is a bit unrealistic.
Having said that though those exaggerations mostly work and the storytelling/construction are superb as you'd expect from Joy Cowley.
It might well be something teachers would enjoy reading aloud as they ease back into the first term of school while it is still sunny outside.
