A recent release of The Flying Emu and The Boing Boing Races into one volume was a joy to read together.Bruce's illustrations are always bright and fun and full of expression (think Diary of a Wombat).

They are a series, as the end of the Boing Boing Races finishes with - 'Great,' said Emu, 'When's the flying race'.

As there's not a great deal of information about Bruce on Goodreads or even Wikipedia, I've included an Author's Note here from the book that many will find fascinating:

Author's Note:
I was born with a damaged right shoulder.

At the time the doctors said my arm would never grow.It would just wither and lay useless at my side.My mother refused to believe it and for nearly three years she massaged my arm and shoulder as I screamed with the pain.

I don't remember any of this but I know Mum remembers every second.I'm sure her pain was far worse than mine.

When I was two and a half, she placed a spoon in my hand and, for the first time ever, I grabbed it.The doctors couldn't believe that she had succeeded.

Throughout my life I have held a bat or thrown a ball with my left hand.

But I draw with my right.

I draw with the arm my Mother's love and determination gave me.

No-one will ever know the pleasure that gives me.

Thanks Mum.
