Negro in Brazilian Society (Florestan Fernandes) pdf, epub, doc

A truly important book on Afro-Brazilians and their struggles in a country always known as a "racial democracy". Fernandes was an outstanding Brazilian scholar and his book — a vast work in two volumes — was aptly and beautifully edited by Phyllis B. Eveleth in 1971, for Atheneum Books. The translation by Skiles, Brunel and Rothwell is a superb job, and I suspect the editorial work by Eveleth was only possible after their work. Since they probably translated the TWO volumes, the book could be published today in this unabridged version! The title reference to "the Negro" is obviously outdated, but the book is a perfect jewell, a masterpiece on race relations. The chapters on the social psychology of race prejudice and discrimination (based on fine theory) are a must.
